DMV PIANO CLINIC

Based in Ellicott City, DMV Piano Clinic provides professional piano tuning, action regulation, and repair throughout Howard County, including Columbia, Ellicott City, Clarksville, Elkridge, Fulton, Highland, and Marriottsville.

Your piano is a live instrument, and Maryland's hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters affect it every year. Regular tuning keeps it sounding the way it should and prevents bigger repairs down the road.

      About Your Technician
Seong Nam has over 20 years of experience caring for pianos across D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. He holds advanced music degrees, served 18 years as an adjunct professor at the George Mason University School of Music, and has performed 25 years as a professional chorister with the Washington National Opera. That musician's ear is what sets his tuning apart.

      Services

Standard Piano Tuning & Voicing: precise pitch stabilization and warm, balanced tone
Action Regulation & Minor Repairs: even, responsive touch; fixes for broken strings, sticky keys, and squeaky pedals
Dampp-Chaser Installation: climate control system that protects your piano from seasonal humidity swings

      Pricing
Standard tuning starts at $200. If your piano hasn't been tuned in several years, it may need extra work, and I will always explain and discuss pricing with you beforehand. There is no travel charge anywhere in Howard County.

      What to Expect
A standard tuning takes about one hour. For most home pianos, I recommend tuning twice a year, once after summer and once after winter.

      What Howard County Clients Say
Anila S., Clarksville, MD

We've had the pleasure of working with Nam for the past 8 years, and we truly cannot recommend him highly enough. He has been caring for our 40+ year old baby grand piano, and thanks to his expertise and dedication, it continues to sound like new every time he services it. His twice-yearly tunings have kept the piano in excellent condition, and it's clear that he brings both skill and passion to his work. What sets him apart is his attention to detail and the care he takes not just to tune the instrument, but to preserve and enhance its character and tone. Our piano has been through a lot over the decades, but in his hands, it always comes back to life—warm, resonant, and beautifully balanced. We’re so grateful to have found someone we trust completely with such a treasured piece of our home.
